There are basically 5 kinds of brain waves which activates different areas of the brain.


  1. Gamma Waves: Gamma waves are supported by other wave forms. Increasing gamma waves increases memory function, stimulates the five senses. It increases motivation and ability to learn quickly.
  2. Beta Waves: Beta waves are linked with the alert mind. It is the state of thinking mind and it is the most dominant of all the waves. Excess of beta waves results in stress.
  3. Alpha Waves: Brain Waves begin to slow down out of thinking mind. We find ourselves in alpha state usually after a yoga class and during an activity that relax the body and mind.
  4. Theta Waves: Theta waves are associated with deep meditation and hypnosis. We often felt as drowsy with stronger intuition. The Theta state is linked to visualization. Increasing theta waves lead to greater self-awareness, advanced creativity and advanced learning.
  5. Delta Waves: These waves are slowest of the brain waves that occur during very deep sleep. Increasing delta waves lower down the levels of cortisol hormone and hence, reduces the signs of aging.

Thalamus controls the senses. It targets your attention by directing some sensory data deep into the brain and ending other signals in their track. Meditation slows down the flow of incoming information.

Reticular Formation

This structure gets incoming stimuli and alerts the brain, to respond quickly. It brings back the arousal signal.
